RISC 757 Rapid Response Network

In response to unprecedented fear and intimidation faced by immigrant communities and the increased targeting of immigrants nationwide, RISC has established the 757 Rapid Response Network to support immigrants in Hampton Roads.

A Rapid Response Network is a community defense project developed to protect immigrant families from deportation threats & provide support during and after immigration enforcement operations.

Volunteers belonging to the Rapid Response Network have distributed thousands of informational fliers and red cards informing immigrants of their rights, focusing on at-risk communities. RISC has distributed such materials to local trailer parks, libraries, churches, restaurants, and stores. We will continue these efforts until every immigrant in Hampton Roads has access to trustworthy information to keep themselves and their families safe.

RISC is prepared for the possibility of local communities being targeted by ICE (Immigration & Customs Enforcement) raids. We plan to take immediate action to document human rights violations and unlawful activity perpetrated by ICE, ensure that everyone knows their rights, provide support to immigrant families affected by raids. ICE operations are often indiscriminate, brutal, and designed to instill fear in communities; additionally, officers routinely lie, use unnecessary force, and racially profile people of color. Despite the government’s claims, a large number of those detained by ICE are innocent people with no criminal record. To learn more about why RISC is involved in this issue, read this report from Human Rights Watch about ICE raids.
